Airport VP of Cargo Operations

Job Summary 

Reporting directly to the COO, and working closely with Regional Directors and/or Station Managers the VP Cargo Ops has overall responsibility for all cargo activity, safety/security, regulatory compliance, performance management, financial, and growth opportunities.

Job Duties 

  • Oversee operations across the GAT system, handling from one(1) to five(5) carriers.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers, partners and vendors.

  • Willing and able to work when and where needed based on operational needs.

  • Review monthly forecasts with Station Managers and make adjustments as needed to meet corporate financial goals.

  • Manage P&L for the Cargo Division

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the TSA, FAA, CBP and other regulatory agencies

  • Participate in monthly Systemwide Safety calls

  • Participate in daily “Live Safe” calls, Town Hall meetings, and other regularly scheduled and unscheduled meetings.

  • Prepare and participate in Quarterly Business Reviews with carriers

  • Represent GAT at industry events to foster relationships and stay abreast of industry trends.

  • Oversee staffing levels and work proactively with TA and Local Management to maintain optimal staffing.

  • Assist in responding to RFPs.

  • Uncover new business opportunities and present them to Business Develop 

  • Perform regular station visits and/or station Town Hall calls.

  • Ensure all POI’s, audits, reports, etc. are completed by the stations

  • Act as the GAT Cargo point of contact for external and internal stakeholders.

  • Keep senior management informed of any important issues as they arise

  • Perform a minimum of one(1) formal annual review per year of all Cargo Station Managers.

  • Identify and develop individuals with leadership potential.

  • Review authorized hours, revenue and DLP daily.  Address variances.

  • Hold regular one on one calls with Managers as well as group calls for the division.

  • Ensure stations have the resources necessary to operate: staffing, training, GSE and supplies.

  • Coordinate with the Corporate Security Manager to ensure regulatory compliance and training. 

 

  • Oversee the investigation, and corrective action plan of any aircraft, facility or GSE damage, any serious employee injury, failed audit(internal/external) or findings by any regulatory agency.

  • Coordinate with local management and HR on any disciplinary action that will or may lead to termination.  Ensure proper procedures are followed and that all documentation is in accordance with applicable policies.

  • Participate in Staff Calls or One on Ones as set by the COO

  • Address any customer issues that have been escalated.  Have direct contact with the customer and advise them of findings or CAP as appropriate.

  • Any other assigned duties

Requirements 

  • A minimum of 10 years of Cargo experience(airline and/or ground handler) preferred.

  • A minimum of 5-years management experience of 25+ staff with P&L responsibility.  Multiple locations are a plus.

  • A High School diploma or GED is a must, prefer a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must possess a strong ethical character.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial/budget analysis, building teams, change management and execution of both strategic and tactical plans.

  • Proven track record of Leadership and employee development.

  • Ability to read, fluently speak and understand the English language

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

  • Must be able to secure a SIDA badge at numerous airports

  • Possess a current passport

  • 25%-40% travel is required
