Our Enterprise Technology team is currently seeking a Senior IT Disaster Recovery Engineer to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA office or remote work location.

 

This is a full time, exempt role.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

The Senior IT Disaster Recovery Engineer leads all technology efforts related to recovery solutions and testing for the Disaster Recovery program including defining gaps, working with infrastructure and application partners to validate requirements and define solutions that meet expected RTO/RPO, assisting in technical implementations and managing all phases of the testing lifecycle to validate recoverability.

This role will partner with infrastructure, architecture, and application partners to co-create technical Disaster Recovery strategies with a focus on cloud recovery technologies and evolution to cloud based workloads. Ensures procedures are kept in alignment with Corporate, Industry, and Regulatory Standards and best practices.

 

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:  

  • Partner with Technical Architects to design, deploy, and manage Azure Disaster Recovery infrastructure components, leveraging Azure Site Recovery or other alternate technologies.
  • Assist in technical implementations of disaster recovery solutions including technology upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
  • Conduct regular testing and simulations to validate the effectiveness of disaster recovery plans.
  • Lead the delivery of consistent disaster recovery (DR) and crisis management support and services with an emphasis on best practices and increasing levels of maturity. 
  • Evaluate and recommends new technologies to solve business challenges and ensure environments remain current. Implement cost management strategies by leveraging innovation and maximize service value to business.
  • Perform periodic reviews to confirm or update DR requirements for all Hanover Tier 1 applications, perform business impact analyses, and lead and coordinates disaster recovery and business continuity design and planning.
  • Employ solid risk and security management practices, creative solutions, and suitable business judgement in delivering business solutions; ensures adherence to regulatory standards as well as compliance and confidentiality policies.
  • Analyze industry, technology, and market trends to stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in infrastructure and resiliency engineering and disaster recovery
  • Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure effective disaster recovery solutions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • At least 7 years of Disaster Recovery experience, with an emphasis on supporting cloud DR environments and testing exercises.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands on experience of Microsoft Azure, including Azure Site Recovery testing and support. 
  • Experience supporting on-premises and cloud disaster recovery environments.
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus two years’ experience in IT or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional certification in BCP/DRP – ABCP or AMBCI suggested.
  • Experience migrating on-premises workloads to the cloud is a plus.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications suggested.
  • In-depth knowledge of the technologies they are currently supported and a proven willingness to stay knowledgeable about and introduce new technologies that would enhance our businesses.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and highly matrixed, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, transparent, and flexible work environment.
  • Proven experience providing 24/7 services and operations.
  • Hands-on experience supporting disaster recovery operations.
  • Ability to build strong insightful relationships quickly; must have top-notch communication skills (oral and written); must be able to network effectively at all levels but especially at the executive and business partner level.
  • Strategic and insightful in their thinking, with good judgment, and an intuitive sense of where to look for opportunities to support the business from a technology standpoint.
  • Vendor management experience required.
  • Promotes collaboration, accountability, respect, empowerment, recognition, and provides ongoing coaching to employees.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • High level technical knowledge of Disaster Recovery and methodologies including failover and recovery of Virtual and Physical servers, IBM Mainframes, NAS, and SAN environments is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of cloud-based recovery technologies.
  • Hands on experience supporting enterprise technical evolution and design of Azure cloud infrastructure components, including Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup.
  • Experience with the integration of on-premises and cloud environments as it pertains to disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Demonstrated “body of knowledge” regarding industry best practices and ability to stay current.
  • Experience with designing and implementing automated technical recovery processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting or leading the development and implementation of Disaster Recovery programs, implementing policy and/or governance programs.
  • Proven aptitude to build relationships, engage and influence others, work with a diverse environment.
  • Strong initiative, with the ability to work in an ambiguous environment with little supervision or guidance. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities with strict deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Experience with testing/execution of DR plans utilizing outsourced/managed service provider staff is a plus.
