Status:  Full Time (12hr shifts - 3d/week) including every other weekend rotation

 

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision and within established scope of practice, Emergency Medical Technician/Medical (EMT-UCT) Assistant II Urgent Care Tech (MAII-UTC) will support the Urgent Care clinic by performing designated medical procedures as directed, and in accordance with San Ysidro Health policies and procedures. The EMT/MAII-UTC should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care in a manner conducive to comfort, safety, and welfare of patients Additional for Medical Assistant II Urgent Care Tech Assists in resolving and/or responding to non-clinical related patient complaints and inquires. Acts as preceptor/trainer. Collaborates with clinic nursing supervisor to develop operational strategies and process improvements for department/unit.

 

Essential Functions of the Job: 

  • Upholds San Ysidro Health's Policies and Procedures, Core Values and competencies and applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Performs routine patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care providers following established clinical protocols and policies and procedures within defined scope of training, education, and responsibilities.
  • Assist medical providers and nursing staff with assigned duties, including but not limited to obtaining vital signs, performing 12-lead EKGs, thermal applications, wound care/dressings, apply orthopedic devices/splints, phlebotomy, and urine specimen collection, performs POC testing, autoclave processing of instruments, assist with transfer within department, set up supplies for specific procedures , Perform s inhalation treatments, visual testing.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and other pertinent information as required by UC.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge and practice of infection control guidelines, sterile techniques, isolation, and universal precautions
  • Documents pertinent patient information, procedures, and patient responses in patients' EHR, following established SYH guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Prepares treatment rooms and patients for examination.
  • Make frequent rounds in the department to maintain tidiness and cleanliness; prepare and decontaminate rooms and equipment between procedures
  • Restocking of urgent care supplies in exam rooms, blanket warmer and linen carts
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control policy and procedures.
  • Handles inventories and orders and replenishes medical supplies and materials throughout the day as needed.
  • Assists the physician with therapeutic and diagnostic patient care functions which may require sterile technique, removal, or application of dressings, suturing or wound care.
  • Performs inhalation treatments, prepares.
  • MAII-UCT may administers immunizations and medications (oral and injections) as directed by physician order and in accordance with SYH policy and procedure.
  • Participates and responds, when assigned to clinical emergency codes.
  • Report any treatment results, observations, patient complaints, or any variation from baseline to charge nurse or provider in a timely manner.
  • Answer urgent call bell promptly; assist patients if within own scope of practice, or report the request complaint to appropriate personnel
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in urgent care service protocols and clinical standards
  • Autoclave: cleaning, processing, sterilizing, and checking of instruments.
  • Daily and monthly QA on all clinic equipment

  • Practice customer service standards as defined by SYH and specified clinic.
  • Anticipates the customer's needs, takes proactive steps to meet those needs, by listening and taking responsibility within scope to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Promptly responds to alarms and patient requests.

  • Assures a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.

Job Requirements

 

Education Required:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion and certification of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants (MA), and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

 

Certifications Required:

  • Completion of externship required by Medical Assisting Program.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in acute care setting

 

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend medical information and terminology.
  • Ability to effectively present information, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to use wheelchair, EKG, gurney table, vital machine, pulse oximeter autoclave.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous standing/walking/twisting.
  • Occasionally lifts pushes and/or transfers patient s.
  • Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness).
  • May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Reliable transportation necessary for occasional traveling to assist with providing coverage at SYH clinics within San Diego County.

 

Universal Requirements:

Pre-employment requirements include 1-9, physic al, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
