The Corporate Environmental Compliance Manager is ultimately responsible to provide comprehensive support, guidance and coordination of environmental compliance and project activities related to Canadian Operations.

  • Working knowledge of Environmental legislation that affects Stella-Jones’ operations (Provincial, Federal, Local)
  • Ensures environmental compliance to local, provincial and federal permits and regulations at all locations.
  • Coordinates and/or completes environmental monitoring and reporting requirements to government related to permits and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support and assist with TRD auditing and maintaining certification at facilities.
  • Develops corporate environmental programs or plans to assist operations to meet or exceed corporate obligations or objectives.
  • Provides environmental technical support and guidance as it relates to environmental projects and/or regulatory permitting.
  • Support/Develop and conduct site audits to ensure compliance to both environmental regulatory and EHS MS.
  • Support and ensure environmental related training available and completed for employees and contractors.
  • Assist operations in identifying and developing Capital Upgrade Environmental Projects and budgeting.
  • Assist and support data entries with respect to SJI’s ESG reporting commitments.
  • Manage environmental consultants for existing monitoring requirements and any permit applications and amendments.
  • Develop and maintain existing Corporate EHS management system, procedures and guidance documents, and scorecard.
  • Participate in SJI Management of Change (MOC) process to verify compliance with established standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate reportable environmental incidents in collaboration with facility management to identify root cause, countermeasures and validate action plan.
  • Monitor and analyze environmental incident reports to identify strategies to minimize and prevent environmental incidents.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Environmental Studies, Engineering, or Diploma from a technical institute in environmental science with applicable work experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean abstract
  • Professional designation such as P.Eng, P.Geol, P.Chem, RP.Bio, CET, QP etc. preferred
  • Certified ISO 14001 Auditor (Preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 6+ years related experience in environmental science and management systems 
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset and preferred
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels including management, production employees, regulators and consulting firms
  • Formal training, education and experience in: 
    • air and water standards
    • sampling protocols
    • environmental auditing and management systems 
    • environmental law
  • Proficient with computers and related software (MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, AutoCAD or equivalent, Outlook, Flow Chart software)
  • M&A experience an asset
    • Various stages of environmental assessments
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions from time to time. 

Travel is required upto 50% of the time
