BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) is the owner and operator of two of Canada’s premier venues for events, BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre. We are seeking a Senior Communications and Community Engagement Manager to help lead the communications strategy and delivery for the overall organization.

 

In this role, you will report to the Senior Director of Communications and Community Engagement and work closely with the communications and marketing teams at BC Place and the Vancouver Convention Centre. You will play a key role in the development and implementation of all external and internal communications strategies. You will help lead our community engagement strategy to deepen the relationships with the communities we represent and the public’s understanding of the work we do. You will also oversee our internal communications with our employees and supplier partners.

 

This role requires an experienced communicator and strategist with a broad range of skills, including media, issues management and crisis communications, employee communications, community and stakeholder engagement, and government relations. You are an excellent writer, extremely organized and have a close eye for detail.

 

We are a small but mighty team so you will need to be a gifted relationship builder with a team-oriented approach who is willing to roll up their sleeves to support your colleagues and help achieve our overall goals.

 

The salary range for this position is $91,344 - $114,180.

  • Offers will be in line with PavCo’s internal pay equity and qualified candidate’s experience and education.
  • Salary discussion and overall compensation package will be presented during initial phone interviews.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide leadership support and counsel for PavCo’s organization-wide internal and external communications strategies and delivery.
  • Help guide the organization’s approach to media relations, supporting our venue communications teams with both a proactive strategy to generate positive media coverage and strategic advice and assistance with responses to media inquiries.
  • Provide strategic issues management counsel, helping PavCo anticipate, mitigate, resolve and respond to issues, including the development of key messages, issues and briefing notes for senior leadership and government, and FOI responses.
  • Oversee the employee communications strategy and delivery for the organization, working with our communications leads at each venue to help tell our stories to our people, and to support Human Resources with our overall employee engagement goals.
  • Provide direct leadership and hire, train, coach and support development of Shared Services communications team members.
  • Provide oversight for PavCo’s communications and creative services strategy and assets, including video and photos for internal and external communications.
  • Support the development of PavCo’s community engagement plan, working with our venue teams to identify key strategic partnerships and implement community-focused projects, enhancing public and shareholder awareness of the positive contributions and social impact PavCo makes to the province of British Columbia.
  • Liaise with government communications and our ministry to keep them informed of our communications and community engagement activities, and help support the development of materials including the annual Service Plan.
  • Support PavCo’s leadership team with key messages and delivery, speeches and presentation development for both internal and external audiences, and the preparation of board materials.
  • Support PavCo’s broader communications and marketing activities, including our websites and social media presence.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • Completion of a university degree in communications or related area of study, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Seven to 10 years of progressive experience in communications in complex work environments, with experience in a crown corporation an asset.
  • Experience in media relations, issues management and crisis communications, employee communications and community engagement.
  • Proven track record of creating and implementing communications strategies.
  • Understanding of crown corporations and government processes, with demonstrated ability of developing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information in a clear, concise manner, and capture the voice of the organization.
  • A self-starter who can work under pressure and handle urgent deadlines with ambiguity, humour and grace.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements on time. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a team-oriented mindset to supporting your colleagues to get work done.
  • Sound working knowledge of standard software applications including Microsoft Office.
