The Pool Bartender is primarily responsible for the smooth functioning and service aspect of a full service bar in an elegant yet relaxing pool setting. The pools are a high volume dining outlet. The Pool Bartender is responsible for delivering the highest caliber of luxury service to guests in an upbeat, lively environment. Creates a professional atmosphere that is inviting for guests, promoting and enhancing the offerings of a wide range of quality beers on tap, wines, and other spirits, as well as menu items. The Bartender must have an exceptional working knowledge of alcoholic beverage offerings and the ability to create drinks according to guests’ requests. Requires an approachable, congenial, engaging personality and the ability to relate and converse with all types of people. Monitors consumption of guests and follows TIPs protocols to ensure a safe environment. Works cohesively with the food and beverage team members to ensure a seamless guest experience.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum two (2) years experience as a Bartender preferably in an upscale establishment.

  2. Fluency in the English language.

  3. Professional appearance and demeanor.

  4. Thorough knowledge of proper service.

  5. Excellent presentation and communication skills.

  6. Exude a warm and sincere approach to guest service.

  7. Enjoy working in a fast paced, sometimes noisy environment.

  8. Ability to provide service efficiently while conveying a warm and friendly demeanor.

  9. High energy, flexible and adaptable.

  10. Ability to “read” the guest and anticipate guest needs.

  11. Ability to remember orders with accuracy.

  12. Ability to memorize menu and drink items.

  13. Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment.

  14. Ability to exercise patience and diplomacy.

  15. Ability to multi-task.

  16. Take initiative.

  17. Ability to work without constant, direct supervision.

  18. Experience with Food & Beverage Point-of-Sale Systems. 

 

Desirable:

  1. Designation from an accredited bartending school.

  2. Experience in hospitality/restaurant industry in similar position.

  3. TIPs certification.

  4. Fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish.

  5. CPR certification.

  6. ServSafe Certification.

  7. Previous guest relations training.

  8. Experience with Micros POS.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of The Ojai Valley’s practices, culture, terminology, organizational structure, and general philosophy.  That philosophy should be portrayed in the professional appearance, behavior, integrity, openness and accessibility to employees and guests.

  2. Maintain a friendly yet unobtrusive manner with all guests throughout their experience.

  3. Promote teamwork and foster a harmonious working climate.

  4. Recognize and address potential intoxicated, disruptive or undesirable guests.

  5. Properly handle and report employee guest accidents. 

  6. Respond properly to any hotel emergency or safety situation.

  7. Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by the supervisor, manager, or resort management.

  8. Offer guests of the pool an enjoyable, expertly served beverage/dining experience conforming to Service and Training Manual:

  9. The bar counter area must be completely prepped for service.  

  10. Bartender must put requisition away as soon as it arrives.

  11. Bar MUST open within 30 minutes to opening time (10:30 AM).

  12. All items behind bar (plastic glassware, disposable glassware, lids, coffee cups, coffee lids, etc. are to be stocked before start of service.

  13. Bartenders must endeavor  to actively greet guests, smile, make eye contact  and speak clearly in a friendly manner as they enter the bar area.

  14. Guest must be greeted immediately when they arrive to the Bar. If guest needs to order drinks or food the Bartender MUST take the guest’s last name, room number, and take the order.

  15. The Bartender will specifically suggest wine & beverages, and be able to discuss wine selections and wine pairings with food.

  16. The staff will actively suggest appetizers.

  17. The staff will actively suggest Main Dish.

  18. The Bartender must secure all temperatures and applicable modifiers when taking the order.

  19. Initial drink orders will be served within 3 minutes of guest ordering.

  20. The first course must arrive within 8 minutes of ordering.

  21. Soiled plates cleared within 2 minutes of all guest’s finishing.

  22. There must be no more than 10 minutes between the removal of one course and the arrival of the next.

  23. When presenting “main dish”, Bartender will inquire as to further needs before returning to their duties.

  24. Guests will be able to easily get staff attention within 60 seconds.

  25. Bills will be automatically presented after guests have declined further service.

  26. Service will always be prompt, including; soiled plates cleared within 2 minutes of all guest’s finishing; payment will be collected within 2 minutes of guest payment or signature

  27. Service will always be attentive, including; condiments preset or provided at time of foodservice; no plastic glass/cup empty more than 2 minutes before offer of refill; silverware always appropriate; “table” kept neat and tidy.

  28. Service will not be interruptive, i.e. staff will not interrupt with questions or make excessively long descriptions or conversation.

  29. Bartender will be able to answer basic questions about the property, will take ownership of simple requests, and not simply refer guests elsewhere.

  30. All staff, even in passing will engage guests with a smile, eye contact and acknowledgment.

  31. Staff will create a sense of recognition by using the guest’s name, when known, in a natural and discreet manner.

  32. Staff will speak to guests in an attentive, natural and courteous manner, avoiding pretension.

  33. Staff will always appear clean, crisp, polished, and well fitted in the correct uniform with their name badge on at all times while they are on duty.

  34. Guests who are alone in our pools will be actively offered reading material.

  35. Bartender will be well informed about food and beverage products, and able to discuss them effectively with guests.

  36. The Bartender will wish the guests a fond farewell as they depart.

  37. Staff will always appear clean, crisp, polished, and well fitted in the correct uniform with their name badge on at all times while they are on duty.

  38. Each Bartender is responsible for the appearance and organization of the Bar Counter before they leave.

  39. Each Bartender must ensure that they are familiar with their closing duties and must be completed daily.

The pay for this position is $16/hour. Plus gratuities.
