Technology and Marketing teams are spearheading initiatives such as a new eCommerce platform, Data Lake, CRM & ERP, along with other future-focused Hotel and Restaurant technologies.


 


Opportunity Northland is looking for a Data Engineer to manage existing data pipelines & repositories and support various enterprise project data needs. They will need to provide infrastructure support and management for both on-premises and cloud-based database systems. They will be required to develop, manage and support ETL processes with a keen eye on the performance and reliability of that information. May be required to assist with end-user reporting needs from time to time.

This position is based in Vancouver, Canada and will report to the Manager, Data & Analytics. They will work closely with the IT, Finance, Marketing, and other internal departments to power insight and provide meaningful data to enable consistently informed management decisions.

Responsibilities



  • Provide day-to-day management and support of the data warehouse systems and troubleshoot existing procedures and processes to optimize for the complete system potential

  • Enhance data warehouse process models in Snowflake, including architecture, security, modelling and integration from other systems, such as food and beverage, property management systems, central reservation systems, and other third-party partners.

  • Work closely with data consumers within the business and other engineers to gather data requirements, create effective data workflows and ensure data is optimized for reporting & integration

  •  

  • Analyze business requirements for reporting and analysis and translate the emanating results into technical data design documents

  • Utilizing Azure Data Factory, Data bricks, python and other related technologies, create and maintain data pipelines from various source systems.

  • Design, Develop, document and maintain custom workflows, actions and triggers using Microsoft Power Automate platform

  • Provide guidance and assistance for data visualization and report generation, specifically with visual data modelling tools such as Power BI

  • Implementing data validation and cleansing procedures that will ensure and report the quality, integrity, and dependability of the data.

  • Implement and manage data solutions in Microsoft Business intelligence stack using SSIS, SSAS and SSRS

  • Create plans, test files, and scripts for data warehouse testing, ranging from unit to integration testing.

  • Create supporting documentation, such as metadata and diagrams of entity relationships, integration pipelines, business processes, and process flow.

  • Manages the metadata repository, including approval workflows, data definitions, technical definitions, classifications, specifications, and data systems.


 


Skills & Qualifications


 



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience in Snowflake, SQL server coding, SQL server database administration, and data warehouse development and architecture, preferably on the Microsoft Azure platform

  • Demonstratable understanding of dimensional modeling as well as other data warehousing techniques

  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft Power BI ecosystem, Microsoft BI stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) and dimensional data modelling

  • Strong ability to draft, analyze and debug SQL queries and be proficient in scripting languages such as Python, C Sharp, Perl, and others

  • Familiar with ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Load), data warehousing, and data visualization design principles

  • Hands-on physical and logical database designing experience

  • Creative thinker with excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize workload

  • Deep passion for data analytic technologies as well as analytical and dimensional modelling

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience in hospitality and/or travel industry preferred
