Summary
Leads a crew while performing daily activities of work involved with the maintenance and installation of all City streets, alleys, lots, traffic signs, and pavement markings in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TXMUTCD). Rotates on-call for nights, weekends, and emergency calls

Essential Duties & Responsibilities by Crew Assignments 

Crack Sealing Crew 

    • Supervises and works with crew to seal cracks on City streets
    • Trims and maintains vegetation on City Alleys when not able to crack seal
    • Assists with the maintenance of vegetation on/in City Right of Way 

Right Of Way Crew 

    • Clears debris out of the city’s streets, right of way and alleys
    • Trims vegetation to prevent motorist visibility issues 
    • Maintains and installs pavement markings
    • Sets out traffic counters for annual counts, stop and traffic signal warrant studies

Asphalt Repair Crew 

    • Directs and assists a crew in the patching of potholes and utility cuts in streets and alleys
    • Operates and maintains the asphalt recycle machine
    • Leads crew when preparing jobsite and lays asphalt mat for new construction, overlays, and major street repairs
    • Inspects streets for potholes and inspects drains for stoppage
    • Prioritizes, manpower, equipment and material required to accomplish task

Signs Crew 

    • Works and supervises crew in the maintenance and installation of all City of Temple traffic signs and pavement marking in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD
    • Manages a fleet of equipment and trucks, responsible for mechanical soundness and cleanliness. Train personnel to operate equipment and trucks as necessary
    • Sets out barricades and signs, cut and remove fallen trees and broken limbs, and set out sandbags  

Forestry Crew 

    • Directs and assists a crew to trim and cut trees along City streets and alleys
    • Chips tree limbs and brush or to load them on a dump truck
    • Clears trees, brush and vines from drainages and creeks and reviews for stoppage
    • Drives to inspect trees along streets and alleys, checks drainages for stoppage.  
    • Identifies items that require cutting and trimming; makes contact with the public concerning what is allowable and necessary to cut and trim

All Crew Member – Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

    • Updates Foreman of planned work progress and problems
    • Interacts with public regarding concerns, follows up as assigned
    • Works in emergency situations with sanding oil spills, frozen streets, etc.
    • Assists other crews in the performance of duties as needed
    • Ensures policies, procedures, safety guidelines are followed
    • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in road construction, maintenance, or related area
  • Two years of experience in operation of roadside maintenance equipment
  • One year of experience as a crew leader or supervisory experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Valid class A CDL and related endorsements may be obtained within 6 months from hire
