Summary                   
Responsible for managing the design development, planning and implementation of the City’s Parks and Trails Master Plan and Capital Improvement Program. Work involves performing site analysis, developing cost estimates, park designs, master plans, and overall project management, while working with developers, special interest groups, contractors, and other governmental agencies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares master plans for individual parks/facilities; maintains and updates park inventory
  • Updates and follows the General and Strategic Plans of the Parks and Recreation Department; seeks alternative funding; and implements plans
  • Implements best practices; manages and coordinates plan activities, and ensures ordinance compliance of designers and/or contractors in the creation/execution of construction plans
  • Manages design development, oversees professional services and/or construction contracts for Parks Community Investment projects
  • Partners with purchasing in the construction bids process; evaluates construction design consultants; coordinates projects and monitors to completion
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board, City Council and other community groups and civic organizations
  • Evaluates Park and Recreation properties; recommends budget improvements for properties and facilities as part of either the Master Plan process or as part of the Capital Improvement Program process
  • Researches and prepares grant applications; manages grant funding
  • Develops and facilitates community outreach for new park projects and renovations in accordance with community needs, solicits feedback, and gain project support
  • Responds to citizen inquiries related to design and development or renovation
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture or related field
  • Four years of park planning experience to include AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and/or other planning related software

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current member with The American Society of Landscape Architecture or the ability to obtain membership within 6 months of hire
