OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

A Solution Architect is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of specific technology solutions or systems. They work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and design the architecture that meets those needs. These individuals should possess strong capabilities in high and low-level design, code review, safeguarding the overall architecture, and implementing best security practices to ensure the code is not vulnerable to any form of attack.

 

WHAT SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED TO DO THE JOB:

 

  • Minimum 10 years of overall working and 5+ years previous programming or software development.
  • Technical Expertise: Solution architects possess a deep understanding of the technical aspects relevant to the specific solution they are designing. This includes knowledge of programming languages, software development methodologies, databases, cloud computing, networking, security, and integration technologies.
  • Architecture Design: They can translate business requirements into a well-structured architectural design that meets functional and non-functional requirements. Solution architects develop architecture blueprints, system diagrams, and design documentation.
  • Solution Integration: Solution architects are skilled in integrating various technology components, systems, and applications to create a cohesive solution. They understand the challenges associated with data integration, interoperability, and legacy system modernization.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solution architects have a solid understanding of the industry in which the solution will be implemented. They are aware of industry-specific regulations, standards, and best practices that need to be considered during the design process.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Strong communication skills are essential for solution architects to effectively gather requirements, explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and collaborate with development teams, business leaders, and vendors.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Solution architects analyze complex problems, evaluate alternative solutions, and recommend the most suitable approach. They can identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Vendor Evaluation and Management: Solution architects assess and select technology vendors, products, and services that align with the solution requirements. They manage relationships with vendors and ensure that delivered solutions meet the expected quality standards.
  • Project Management: Solution architects may be involved in project management activities, including creating project plans, estimating timelines and resources, and coordinating activities across different teams.
  • Quality Assurance: They ensure that the implemented solution meets quality standards by defining and reviewing test strategies, performing code and design reviews, and conducting performance analysis.
  • Continuous Learning: Solution architects stay updated with the latest advancements and trends in technology, frameworks, and industry-specific solutions to ensure the designs are innovative, efficient, and aligned with current best practices.

 Good to Have:

  • Public sector experience.
  • Cloud experience.
  • Experience with a diagram framework (UML, BPMN2, other)
