OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

We are looking for a Data Governance Specialist to champion and execute data governance initiatives, policies, and procedures within our organization. The Data Governance Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, data analytics, and compliance, to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of our data assets.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING IN THE ROLE:

  • Data Governance Framework: Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive data governance framework that outlines data policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Data Asset Management: Identify and document critical data assets, their lineage, and the associated data owners.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Monitor data quality and enforce data quality standards through data profiling, data cleansing, and validation processes.
  • Data Security: Collaborate with IT and security teams to define and enforce data security policies and access controls.
  • Data Privacy Compliance: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or other relevant industry-specific data privacy requirements.
  • Data Documentation: Create and maintain metadata catalogs, data dictionaries, and data lineage documentation to facilitate understanding and discoverability of data.
  • Data Stewardship: Appoint and train data stewards responsible for overseeing and maintaining data quality and integrity for specific data domains.
  • Data Governance Training: Conduct data governance training and awareness programs for employees to promote a culture of data stewardship.
  • Data Governance Reporting: Develop and maintain data governance performance metrics and KPIs to track the effectiveness of data governance initiatives.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify and address data-related issues, discrepancies, or anomalies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Data Governance Committee: Facilitate and participate in the data governance committee to review and approve data-related policies and decisions.

WHAT SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED TO DO THE JOB: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Management, Information Systems, or Business Administration).
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and compliance regulations.
  • Proficiency with data governance tools and metadata management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Familiarity with data quality tools and practices is a plus.
