Workshop Project Manager

Summary: The Workshop Project Manager is responsible for the local management of existing repair contracts with customers in our geographical region. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring that all contractual requirements of the customer are met while simultaneously delivering or improving upon the as-sold project financials (revenue, margin, cash collection timing).He or she works closely with Product Centers and local shops  organization to effectively execute projects from quote, receipt of a purchase order through execution in the shop   and will be responsible for administering any warranty issues through the end of the warranty period. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Be the primary MAN-ES contact with the customer for project execution matters. Provide regular written progress reports to the customer and attend meetings with them as required to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review and provide any necessary comments to the customer’s purchase order to ensure that it is consistent with what was quoted, negotiated, and sold. Meet as required with the associated Sales  Manager and Repair Engineer to ensure that all project requirements are documented and understood at the handover of the project from sales to project management. Review and sign-off on the final project cost sheet including all scope of supply items required by the customer purchase order.
  • Develop and maintain the overall project schedule in cooperation with Product Centers and local shops . Monitor and track progress against the schedule and take corrective actions to mitigate the impact of unexpected events that threaten achievement of the overall project schedule. Identify project schedule risks and develop contingency plans for them.
  • Develop and maintain an overall project budget, including costs for the Product Centers  scope of supply, local  scope of supply, to be applied against the project.
  • Support proposal development by creating cost sheets ( SOWs)  , compiling  all  relevant documents to be included or referenced in final  quote
  • Become familiar with all project technical and documentation requirements contained in the customer specifications and referenced industry specifications. Ensure that these requirements are flowed down to the appropriate parties.
  • Closely coordinate project execution activities and document transfers to and from the customer and other related parties
  • Enter and maintain the appropriate project data in our SAP ERP system.
  • Review all vendor quotes for major equipment being procured by the regional organization and ensure all applicable contractual requirements have been flowed down to them. Participate with the purchasing organization in the final vendor selection and placement of vendor purchase orders.
  • Coordinate and conduct sub-supplier kick-off and coordination meetings and monitor progress of major sub-suppliers. Work with purchasing to take corrective actions with them should problems arise. Review and approve vendor invoices. Establish sub-supplier expediting and inspection requirements and participate in sub-supplier inspections and customer witness points as required.
  • Manage customer document submittals for compliance with final agreed document list including control of submittal and return dates. Review sub-supplier documents for compliance with the purchase order and agreed customer specifications.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope and identify opportunities for contract change orders that improve project financials and/or mitigate delivery schedule risk. Negotiate change orders with customers, suppliers and  MAN Product Centers .
  • As necessary , support commercial team  to manage disputes with the customer concerning contract compliance. Respond as appropriate to any claims for liquidated damages, penalties, or back charges. Escalate major claims to management.
  • Provide technical support during equipment installation and commissioning. If there is a contractual availability guarantee, work with the PrimeServ organization to make sure it is understood and a proper support plan is in place.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and responsibility for their assigned work.
  • Provide regular internal project status reports as directed and maintain project documents and records as per company procedure.

 

Required Education: Bachelors Degree  from a 4-year college or university

 

Required Experience: At least ten  years of engineering, sales, operations, or project management experience with large rotating equipment such as turbo compressors, steam turbines, large pumps or gas turbines is required. Previous experience with SAP strongly preferred.

 

Desired Experience:

  • Ability to utilize SAP and other appropriate IT systems as required to manage projects per the MAN-ES process.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to create project schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to understand and interpret legal contracts, including purchase orders

 

Required 3rd party Certifications/Qualifications:  P.M. Cert. desirable

 

Other skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills.

Physical Requirements: The majority of the time of this position requires operating in a typical office environment sitting at a desk using telephones and personal computers. This position will require some  time in industrial environment. This position mostly uses close vision (clear vision at 5 feet or less). Incumbent must be able to travel by car, train, and/or aircraft in support of internal and customer meetings held domestically and on other continents.
