Summary: The MAN Lead Process System Engineer will be an expert in the technical design and interface of compressors and process systems in turbomachinery with a key focus in the areas of industrial heat pumps/refrigeration This individual will deal with system processes and optimization of methodologies and be highly visible to internal and external departments.  This role is a foremost position in the innovation for climate solutions.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the Heat pump/refrigeration system for novel projects, including system modeling and component specification and selection
  • Responsible for the technical interface of compressors and process systems; defining compressor conditions for correct performance of heat pump cycles
  • Responsible for the development, specification, and evaluation of technical components and systems within the scope of MAN equipment delivery
  • Direct technicians and engineers to assemble and ultimately manufacture the heat pump subsystems with support of other discipline engineers
  • Design validation plans and oversee tests to address performance, reliability, and robustness
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues or poor system performance and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with design groups to address changes affecting multiple aspects of a system
  • Lead cost reduction and design for manufacturing & reliability efforts on the heat pump system
  • Summarize and present findings to promote changes to design and/or process workflow
  • Document system architecture and function
  • Provide leadership in understanding of industry standards and specifications regarding conformance, codes, methods, and performance related tests
  • Guide development of heat pump infrastructure and equipment
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects analysis
  • Design and specification of technical components, assemblies and systems
  • Review and evaluate customer specifications, advise customers on technical solutions, coordinate inspections and witness testing activities with appropriate personnel.
  • Review and develop systems based on customer specifications, standards, and internal regulations
  • Prepare assembly and commissioning documents
  • Develop/standardize components and/or assemblies as related to system and plant engineering
  • Provide support during the commissioning of the scope of supply
  • Aid in resolving non-compliance issues.
  • Independent work and willingness to travel worldwide as required. Extended training period in Germany required (3-6 months)
  • Knowledge of explosion protection and functional safety

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent

 

Required Experience:

  • 10 years of pertinent experience in complex projects
  • 2+ years of experience working with refrigeration/heat pump system design in an industrial setting

 

Required 3rd party Certifications/Qualifications:  None.

 

Other skills:

  • Experience with and use of tools: HYSYS, ASPEN products, Epsilon, E3D, SAP
  • Sound knowledge of relevant international standards and guidelines (MRL, EN, ANSI, API, VGB, etc)
  • Fluent in English with additional competence in German or Spanish preferred.

 

Competencies:

  • Technical writing proficiency
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 suite experience positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Positive safety role model, proper safety behaviors and safe work practices.

Physical Requirements:  Visits to industrial production plants, construction sites and manufacturing facilities which may be located in harsh climates and environments. Domestic and international travel with proper PPE and documents may be required.
