The Virginia Eye Institute (VEI) is hiring!  VEI is a large and dynamic practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists in the Richmond, VA area.

We are searching for a full-time nurse practitioner to join our busy practice.

Job purpose

 

Nurse practitioners with Virginia Eye Institute practice autonomously and collaboratively with other health care providers to perform history and physical exams, order laboratory and diagnostic tests, and perform procedures within their authorized scope of practice.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

 

  • Perform physical examinations of patients to evaluate health and prepare for surgery, to include vitals and EKG
  • Order necessary diagnostic tests, such as x-rays and laboratory tests in order to prep patient for surgery, as well as follow up for completed testing
  • Determine, plan, and initiate appropriate treatment, and adjust treatment if necessary
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as needed
  • Document medical information of patients and maintain electronic medical records
  • Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families in preparation for their upcoming surgeries
  • Request consultation or referral with other health care providers, such as physicians and clinics as needed
  • Retrieve necessary information from primary care or specialty offices in order to complete the history and physicals needed for surgery
  • Work closely with the Physicians, Surgical Coordinators, and Ambulatory Surgery Center to ensure proper documentation, testing, paperwork, etc. has been completed and sent for each patient
  • Assist in VEI related activities and projects as needed throughout the year (Ex. Flu vaccines, COVID testing, etc)
  • Actively maintain knowledge of current medical research and trends, and support research projects

Education, Licenses, Certificates and Registrations Required

 

  • Masters degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • RN licensure, and board-certified by either ANCC or AANP
  • APN authorization in the state where employed to practice in family health by the Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Prescriptive authorization

 

Experience

 

  • 2-4 years of clinical work experience preferred
  • Experience providing primary care as a family nurse practitioner preferred
  • Proficiency with medical equipment required to perform your work
  • Knowledge of computer-based data management programs and information systems, as well as medical records
  • A sound understanding of all pertinent federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of disease prevention
