ROLE PURPOSE

This position will provide assistance to residents with activities of daily living, medication assistance and tasks as may be delegated.

 

STATUS

Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders. 

 

HOURS

40 hours per week; Thursday to Monday, 0830 - 1630

40 hours per week; Tuesday to Saturday, 0800 - 1600

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide direct assistance and support to residents as required (both scheduled and unscheduled), for assistance with all essential activities of daily living including:
  • Hygiene support and grooming needs
  • Mobility as needed
  • Dinner Service, cutting food, escorting to the table
  • Support services, including cueing and reminders
  • Aiding with potentially soiled laundry and/or bedding
  • Following the established resident comprehensive service plan, at all times working with the resident regarding preferred times, and method of service assistance
  • Maintain records required regarding resident care, medication management, changes to care and support needs, and resident refusals for established routines
  • Provides input regarding resident support requirements and discuss changes with Program Manager and Team
  • Observes residents and their environments, and report any changes and concerns
  • Perform delegated tasks once receiving training by Registered Nurse and demonstrating competence in the performance of the task
  • Provide companionship to isolated residents, and maintain knowledge of all activities being provided, facilitate and encourage resident participation
  • Facilitate the transition for new residents to the Residence, helping them to learn about their new housing environment, the services and resources available
  • Interact with residents in a manner that respects their individual rights and dignity, ensuring privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times
  • Coordinating transfers to and from hospital
  • Provide unscheduled housekeeping assistance as required
  • Assist residents with personal laundry as requested
  • Assist residents to access the dining room, and provide take away meals as directed by the Program Manager
  • Attend staff in-service and continuing education programs, and approved work-related conferences and seminars
  • Have an awareness of the Contractors concerns, laws, and policies related to the specific residence program
  • Perform other related duties as required

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the care team
  • Carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching
  • Work within a social model approach
  • Handle confidential / sensitive material with integrity and discretion
  • Adheres to Connective policies and procedures
  • Be available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings/weekends, as determined by program/client needs and schedules

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in a related human/social service field with one-year related experience
  • Health Care Aide or Community Health Worker certificate is preferred
  • Experience working with seniors, preferably in a home or community setting

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully complete reference check
  • WHMIS
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The physical requirements outlined below are non-specific to the position, as such, there may be additional tasks required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities though our accommodation process.

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs)

 

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 per hour (plus 5% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees). The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.76 per hour (plus 5% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees).

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
