The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for all areas of health and safety to ensure safe work practices and operations at all CLARK locations. Position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring of the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs and policies for all locations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections, and monitors hazardous waste removal vendors. Interacting with a variety of departments, conducts various safety related trainings. Monitors environmental compliance and maintains liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies. Alerts leadership team with corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Position will coordinate various safety functions, trainings and perform administrative tasks related to maintaining safety & environmental  reports, tracking, training, audits and coordinating activities and trainings to ensure a safe work environment and regulatory compliance.

 

Essential Safety & Environmental Functions:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk in our processes and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Build trust and confidence across all teams and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
  • Ensures and maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.
  • Directs activities related to EH&S programs and ensures company compliance with any applicable regulations, reviews requirements regarding safety aspects.
  •  Possess excellent safety program knowledge as well as environmental and ergonomic knowledge and be able to demonstrate this expertise on a daily basis.
  • Lead & manage safety committee activities, agenda preparation, reports, follow-ups, programs.
  • Lead New Hire & contractor  Orientation safety training including the maintenance of the onboarding factory area.
  • Provide support for worker’s compensation claims including 5  Whys, Accident investigation, reporting and return to work efforts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues related to the position.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations related to safety, environmental and OSHA.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable safety policies; create and update safety policies as needed in partnering with HR.
  •  Regularly identify and prioritize areas of opportunity, identify a plan for the site to implement, and fix all identified deficiencies.
  • Analyze safety metrics and review weekly and monthly incident trends to discover patterns and rationalize the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.
  • Manage all safety programs, conduct training, and manage documentation.
  • Manage, perform frequent safety walks with Managers, Supervisors, safety committee, insurance carriers, and or consultants.
  • Perform annual assessments e.g., PPE Lock out/Tag out Job Analysis
  • Create and document safety toolbox talks and topics.
  • Maintain electronic database for SDS files on public file.
  • Conduct annual evacuation, Tornado & emergency drills and assess the employee critique for improvement.
  • Maintain updated emergency action response plans and procedures as needed.
  • Maintaining inventories of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes to ensure that materials are handled properly and labeled.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Three years of safety experience in a manufacturing production environment preferred.
  • College or Technical Degree in industrial  or environmental safety /science/engineering/industrial discipline preferred.
  • Excellent  computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365
  • Knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations, with a strong knowledge of OSHA regulations & general industry standards
  • Working knowledge of EPA regulations preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of environmental, health and safety programs.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize projects. Able to adapt to changes as they occur.
  • Must be meticulous and possess the ability to manage complex and varied projects.
  • May be required to work a couple days a month in  the Louisville, KY and Dallas, TX  facility .
  • Must be authorized to work in the US indefinitely.

 

Physical / Environmental Conditions:

The incumbent is located in an office environment with regulated heating and cooling.  The position requires using a personal computer and monitor, as well as basic office equipment. The position will require you to be in the manufacturing area at times and may encounter loud noise, varying temperatures (including heat during summer and from the operation of equipment.)  Various machinery and equipment may generate loud noise and vibration. The incumbent may come into contact with oil, grease, paint, solvents and other potentially hazardous materials.  The incumbent may also encounter dust, fumes, flying debris, and fast-moving machinery, such as forklift trucks. Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds.
