You will be supporting the Western Canada woodlands operations and pole peeling plants of Stella-Jones, reporting to the Accounting Manager. You will join an established woodlands accounting team that is implementing a new ERP system. Principal Responsibilities:

Woodlands Accounting Duties 

  • Responsible for compiling Contract payables for all raw log/barkie Procurement for Interior and Coastal BC Operations
  • Logging & Log Sales Contracts; set-up and maintains complex multi-phase contracts for conversion and rate changes (Interior and Coast)
  • Barkie Purchase Contracts; set-up, maintains and validates barkie loads for payment (BC Interior & Coastal sites)
  • Barkie Load entry (custom peeling sites) and validation
  • Log Load Entry; and Non-Pole Sales including Invoices to Customers when needed
  • Checks log Loads against Loader Summaries to ensure all load documentation is received for payment
  • Processes Log Sales Adjustments
  • Barkie Inventory Reconciliation of Loads & $ all BC Sites
  • Prepares various Production reports

Accounting Duties

  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process under the direction of the Controller.
  • Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Compile, enter and analyze financial information.
  • Analyze key processes and recommend internal control improvements.
  • Assist with design, testing and integration of ERP system implementations.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and analyses under the direction of Controller.
  • Partner with management to prepare value added analysis and reports.
  • Keep Controller apprised of potential concerns and statuses.
  • Apply principles of accounting theory and use of judgment and other professional skills to determine the appropriate procedures for preparing and maintaining accounting records and reports.
  • Train and mentor peers.
  • Support others in finance when needed.
  • Participate and contributes to company safety program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Accounting knowledge – 4-year degree in Accounting
  • Experience:  3+ years’ experience in Accounting including experience with analysis, reconciling accounts, cost accounting, receivables and payables, and journal entries, preferably in manufacturing industry.
  • License/Certification: CPA, CPA student preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong Excel skills with an interest and aptitude for working with large amounts of data
  • LIMS experience is an asset
  • SAP s4 Hana experience is an asset
  • Wood Products experience preferred
  • Adaptive to changing processes and ability to problem solve
  • Effective communication, both written and oral
