Animal Caregiver I, Duchess Sanctuary

The general range for this position is $17.50 – 20.50 per hour, plus full benefits. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Animal Caregiver I for Duchess Sanctuary in Oakland, Oregon. In this position you will provide care to the animals at Duchess Sanctuary, specifically equines.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares and delivers feed and maintains prescribed diet for animals at Duchess Sanctuary. Assists in maintaining food inventory;
• Provides daily care and observation of animals, including grooming in keeping with seasonally changing needs. Assists with record keeping for daily care, feeding, husbandry, animal locations, and body conditions;
• Cleans and provides daily upkeep for enclosures, habitats, and other work areas. Assists in maintaining supply inventories;
• Maintains and repairs enclosures, pastures, and habitats including mowing and landscaping;
• Provides basic first aid, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care to animals as directed;
• Assists with overseeing volunteers including reporting and handling concerns and providing mentorship;
• Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required;
• One (1) year of experience in equine care preferred;

• Experience with side-by-side utility vehicles and tractors preferred.
• Willing and able to work a flexible schedule;
• Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
• Strong interpersonal skills are necessary;
• Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
